With over a year into this pandemic, we find ourselves back at home during another lockdown. In these challenging times, it’s important to remember our faithful local businesses who tirelessly adapt and work to stay open and serve the public, even as their doors must remain closed. To #shoplocal is to help the small businesses in the area as they work to stay open, even after the lockdown lifts. Check out our 2021 list of Whitby local shops that need our support.
Words on Wood offers hand-painted wood signs, customized and unique for any home, as well as other beautiful décor pieces. They are open for curbside pick-up and are easily contactable by telephone. They are also offering free shipping on local orders through Whitby, Ajax, Pickering and Oshawa. Check out their Instagram for beautiful home inspiration.
Unique Town Boutique is not your average shop. While they offer a wide range of distinctive home decor, personalized gifts and accessories, it’s their business goals and outreach that truly set them apart. This little shop works with local vendors and makers to sell their wares in person and online. They aim to not only support local but give back to their community with a few charities, including MADD, CAMH, local animal shelters and more. When you shop at Unique Town, you’re finding local treasures but also supporting incredible charities at the same time. Check them out on Instagram and their website for more info on ordering.
B/A Vintage is operating, but Trish still goes into the shop to accommodate all your curbside pickups on Wednesdays and Saturdays (be sure to contact her before taking a trip to the shop). It’s a fantastic time to freshen up our homes or tackle that home project to-do list. Getting some helpful inspiration or unique pieces from B/A Vintage may be the best choice you make this lockdown. Follow them on Instagram for updates on their pieces.
Brookstead Fine Flowers has curtailed their business during this challenging year. They offer curbside pick-up and delivery on their beautiful floral arrangements and now offer monthly and bi-weekly floral subscriptions! Fancy having fresh flowers on the regular? Brookstead is the way to go. Did you miss their mason jar bouquet workshop last March? Check in on their Instagram to see more news, special packages and events they are planning.
Crystal Bliss not only sells lovely crystals, but also many different types of incense, smudge sticks, and tarot cards—everything you need to feed your spirit during this trying time. While their brick-and-mortar store is closed, they are offering curbside pick-up! Take a look through their Instagram or Facebook and send them a DM when you find an item that speaks to your soul.
You might not be able to venture inside Brock Street Brewing for a pint, or shop their unique selection of beer, vodka sodas and merch, but their online shop is open and ready for you to place your orders. Always offering curbside pick-up, they now offer local craft beer and vodka soda delivery. When you communicate with the staff, be sure to wish them “Happy Anniversary” as they just celebrated 6 years of local operation. Congrats! Have you ordered from these Whitby businesses during lockdown? Are their others that didn’t make our list? Let us know on Instagram and Facebook and we’ll be glad to shout them out! And remember, if there are other local businesses unable to stay open, keep them in mind for when they can reopen. They’ll be glad of your commitment and service.
